Took this photo the other day when I was looking in and out of alley's for my bike that was stolen from my garage!

I trying to move my photography in a new direction and would love any comments people might have!

I like the subjects... The couch and old metal garbage cans are great. But the plywood background is a little much. I think the problem with it is that it has the same contrast/color as the couch. So that makes them blend together too much. If it was a dark brick wall for example, that would make a much better contrast in the picture.

Hope you don't mind... I made a quick crop and Levels:



I cropped out a lot of the plywood. Then I used Levels and moved the arrow on the left to about 55. Then the middle arrow right to about .75. This increased the contrast a lot. Then I moved the right arrow left, to lighten it a little.

Although this caused a lot of detail in the grass and cans to be lost, it don't think it's important with this image since the grass is secondary and looks better now being more abstract. Same with the cans to a lesser degree.

I took a stab at the photo myself.

Here it is. I was able to enhance the textures in the couch and the wall. I cropped it this way because I fealt that the couch was really the center of interest with the cans, wall, and grass in a complimentary role with their interesting textures. I fealt that the white metal wall on the right was not even neccessary and only served to compete in tonality with the couch.
