Is it better to crop photos to standard print ratios? I notice that I seem to crop to 'how it looks best' but this results in images of all different ratios?

Your thoughts?

Lately for challenges, I have been doing a lot of square crops. This results in the largest real estate for the image. However, some shots don't look right this way. Then they almost always get a standard print ratio.

I usually tend to crop to the usual proportions, unless the image is just for online use and will not be printed, but even then I do a standard crop as backup.

I usually use 7.5 x 5 or 7 x 5 as my standard

My camera is a standard 4x6 ratio straight from the camera so I try and compose my shots with that in mind. I try and crop to 8x10 ratio too. It's kinda annoying, though. I wish people would either supply to 4x6 and 8x12 or else 4x5 and 8x10.

I almost always crop at 3:2 to match my SLR but I also avoid printing in the more common non 3:2 ratios. I have no idea why the old ratios seem to be common in frames (prob inertia) when most cameras are not that ratio. Most people prob don't know the machines crop automagically when the hit that button. I kinda like a square crop too but it's a hassle printing and finding a frame :-/
