Looking at some of the camera self-portrait entries, I'm amazed at how the lenses dominate the rest of the camera.

Are these specific lenses, or is there just a lot of parallax distortion that occurs when the camera's close to a mirror?

For example, compare these entries with the Canon EOS 350D:



with the database picture of the camera:
Canon EOS-60D
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

At least noone had one of these bad boys stuck on the front of their camera :)

On the first shot I believe it's the angle the camera is to the mirror making the lens most prominent.

On the second picture I believe it is the convex curve of the glasses that's making the lens seem much larger.

The 24-70L in the first shot is also quite a bit bigger than the kit lens pictured in the database shot.

It's partly wide angle distortion, and how close the subject is.

Like in this shot, the lens hood of the 70-210 was about 5 inches away from the front element of the 18-55 on the camera, and it looks huge even though it's only maybe 80mm diameter.
