I am going to KC this weekend and a friend of mine would like some pictures of the fountains around town to decorate her apartment. She has a few particular ones in mind. Nothing fancy, maybe some B/W, you know...artsy fartsy! :p
Any favorite or hidden fountains around the city?
Any general tips/problems for shooting fountains during the day? Long/short exposure, stopping down, over exposing, etc.
Make sure that you walk around the Plaza....there are a lot of good fountains around there. Also...if you go by the Liberty Memorial there are a couple of good ones there. There are a few people on this site that live in KC and could be of more help than me....
As for shooting...I would try shooting at night with a longer exposure, for that silky smoooooooth look.
Thanks for the advice so far. I am hoping to sneak out and about Saturday night to try some night shots...but they might have to be faster shots during the daytime on Saturday.
Maybe do some night shots if the fountains are lit at night. Definitely use a tripod if you can. A ND filter will allow for a longer exposure to give that silky smooth spray. If not try out a circular polarizer.
Nearly all of the fountians are lit. All the large post-cardy ones are, and many of the small ones. There is a visitor center on the Plaza and there are maps available online of all the fountians.

This one I shot in Savanna Georgia. The key was I shot many exposures and shot in raw so I would be able to tweak the image to have the look I felt it had while I stood there.
Go to 48th and Broadway, that's the Plaza.

Make sure you find Pennway and Southwest Blvd., that's the bright colored mexican restaurant part of town. And where I took these:
Find the city market in downtown KC around 18th street. You have to go there very early on saturday morning. You'll find a lot of homemade/grown stuff there.
Dan was the one who told me about DPC! And my wife still hates him for it (j/k dan)...ever since I started playing here I've been building my photography arsenal! Looks like I'm in the market for an ND or Polarizing filter now!
