About 25 trying out different concepts and ideas. Then 114 executing my final shot to my satisfaction. Incidentally, I would have played around more, but as it is, I only beat the submission deadline by minutes.
I made about 300, but then decided not to submit any, because I was not that happy with the results.
But I was wondering, why there was not that much entries (when you compare it to the freedom challenge, which was just speed challenge, it has just 19 more entries)

Probably for similar reasons to yours. Sports is difficult anyway, never mind with a digital camera that has a large shutter lag, like most point and shoots. Sports is one of the few challenges we've had were equipment performance is quite significant, although some creative entries have avoided a lot of those issues and created great shots with what looks like low end cameras.

For me the shutter lag was not the main problem, that is a thing you get used to, but the lack of control over the DOF and the slow focusing is sometimes driving me mad... I can't wait to get the 300D :)
I took about 140 'useless' shots.... I had a one time only opportunity to shoot what I wanted for this challenge and apparently had some sort of brain-fart on the day and the results were very, very sub-standard. The worst part is it was sooooo avoidable....
oh well, you live and you learn, I'm just grateful it was for dpc and not a paying job.... I salvaged about five shots and submitted the 'best of a bad bunch'.....
I'm really annoyed because I was so looking forward to this challenge!
out of the 235 or so images I took I had about 17 I really liked, then it was picking the one i felt would do the best...im about on par for my usual average score so far
