Jon, I really like your abstracts with your signature light patterns. I'm glad to see you're still exploring. They are getting better and better. Do you have any rules or discoveries you can share in creating them? If I just made light shapes in front of a camera, I'd probably fail to get a pleasing result, but you may have some wisdom to share?

David, I'm using the same technique as before but just playing with the exposures. The two shots below were of a piece of high-gloss spiralled plastic which I spun and skewed during the time exposure.
While the shutter was open I exposed the spiral to a mobile strip light which I moved both towards and away from the subject. The 'rhythm' in the ribbons is created by the spinning spiral catching the light at intervals. These can be made to space out or close up by varying the speed of rotation.
Jon, I was just looking through your portfolio, and got my coworker to laugh when she caught me staring really hard at your stereograph pictures with my eyes crossed. How do you take those? They remind me of the Viewmaster that fascinated me when I was a little kid.

I still can't do the stereo thing on the computer screen. In prints, etc., no problem. Must be the radioactive light elements burning through me brain.
I love abstract photography, but sometimes I find it difficult to know what's abstract and what isn't. I think it's not so easy to make abstract photos that will really resonate with a lot of people. I haven't sold anything labelled "abstract" - comments, yes, but sales, no.
