I put a lot of time and energy into my entry for the Black and White in color, I even discussed this with a friend who's a professional photographer and I still did very poorly. I received only 4 comments, would someone mind giving me feedback? Thanks
This is a decent shot but it is very busy. Change DOf to blur out some of the pebbles would help, maybe light that darker arrow head so it doesn't fade into the background as much, etc. Also have to remember that this shot is lacking in 'wow' factor and wow factor goes a long, long way around here.
there's a comment on that picture saying, "Objects are interesting but due to light picture seem pretty flat."
I think that says a lot of what I personally think too.
The subjects are interesting, but I feel that they don't really stand out that much. I'd like to see more details and a closer look at the 2 pieces in the centre.
I think 5.5 is just about right for this entry. It's a nice shot. Technically, there's not much to criticize here. The white arrowhead is a tad overexposed, and perhaps you would have been well served to pull in for an ever tighter composition, as the rocks don't add a whole lot. For me they don't, at least.
Your subject is interesting. There's a lot of potential here, but not necessarily in a studio format like this. Take those arrowheads out into the field. Poke them into the beach at sunset and shoot them from a tight, low angle.
In the end, I think you scored where you did because the photo just doesn't grab you. It's nice, but I suspect most people didn't linger too long to really soak up the details.
You have the main ingredients in the arrow heads. Generally you did a good job and the only thing that I can detect is the possibly too busy background of the pebbles to obscure the arrowheads. You must bear in mind that presentation is very important and therefore you must go out of your way to present the main subject. I agree with your reasoning that these things are made of stone but a simpler background would have helped here. Of course, the next problem after simplifying,is the placing of the pair but I am certain that different takes would have yielded a more interesting end result.
I'm not saying I don't appreciate the 5's and 6's, but I had two challenges recently that did 6+ at the end and I thought I was starting to get the hang of this challenge stuff. I need to start thinking outside the box, no I need to throw away the box. This was photographed outside in 95 degree weather, I had to keep a towel handy to keep the camera from getting soaked. technically good photo, deserves the pretty good score it got, only thing is that there's no subject interest to it... just some rocks and arrowheads, lacks the coveted "wow" factor, lol... hate to say it, but that's really what it is
Not to be insulting, but based on what I've found with DPC in particular... the image just isnt interesting enough. It has no pretty colors, it's not clever, it's not dynamic, the subject would likely only appeal to those who have an interest in such things.
The lack of comments and an average score suggests, to me, that it didnt have anything wrong/bad with it but it also had nothing to stand out and grab the viewer either.
