The standard test is to take a pic or two in the dark with the remote control of your TV or something pointed towards the camera. If you see something, you have IR sensitivity.
However, you may need a longer exposure as the sensitivity might be fairly low.
Once you know what it can do, you can use something called a Hoya 72 IR filter.
With threaded filters, I usually get one large one and a step-down ring, but this might be one case where you only use one lens generally with it.... your call.
I believe that I read somewhere that the Sony sensor that is in the Nikon D70/Pentax/Konica Minolta 7D/5D does have pretty decent IR sensitivity, but again, you might need 20-30 seconds for it to show up.
Another person posted about this and didn't find any results for his 5D, but got results from his P&S cam... He didn't post exposure time, so I don't know if this was because of a more sensitive P&S cam and insufficient time on his DSLR test shots. |
