A friend of ours was at the Yellowstone / Teton National Park area last week and there were four of them. Each one had a Canon EOS 10D. While tracking and photographing Moose in the area, our friends 10D just quick working! They tried new batteries, new storage media and whatever else they could think of and it would not work!
Has anyone ever experienced this with their Canon EOS 10D?
He his going to take it to the shop ASAP, he just returned today. And boy is he MAD!
He is a very advanced photographer and takes excellent car of his equipment. He travels all of the world shooting wildlife, scenery and etc on his vacations. Naturally he is single!
He has numerous blowups of his work at home and in his office area.
Any ideas?
I do not like the sounds of this since I just placed an order for the same camera!
ive had mine since early march. not a peep of trouble. but occasionally there will be a bad one here and there. it's just probability. i dont think it's something generalize though....
I have learned from my line of work one thing that is good to keep in mind when buying Computers or Electrical stuff of any kind.
I dont think about IF it breaks down, but rather how is the support WHEN it breaks down;)
I have a 2 year warranty on my 10D so WHEN it breaks I have it fixed free of charge, Plus I bought an insurence wich covers Human Errors of any kind!
As always, the dissatisfied people are a lot more vocal than the satisfied people. That's why such incidents can skew people's perceptions of the worth of a product. You should have seen the mayhem caused by people having focus problems on DPReview.com. Looked like 9 out of 10 cameras were bad. A lot of those problems were fixed magically overnight.
You'll see that virtually all 10D owners have had no problems.
Suggestion to your friend ... bring a back up cam on any important outting. Even if it's only a point and shoot.
Did you try taking both batteries out of the camera. If it's a firmware glitch, you may be able to get it to reset by removing all power. I'm not sure what type of memory is used on the 10D, so I'm not sure if it will work. I did notice that there is a CR2025 battery on the bottom that I would assume is to maintain the camera's internal state.
