OK, here it is. The stupid PS7 question of the night. Having always done everything in MM Fireworks, cropping a picture to specific dimensions was a snap.
Now, I'm trying to move over to PS slowly (mostly due to work which is a good thing). Anyways, all I'd really like to do is crop an image down to a specific dimension (5x7) to print them and then resize for the web.
Simple right? I think I'm having a brain fart night.
With the crop tool, look at the bar along the top. There will be little areas to fill in what you want to set the crop ratios too, by pixel, inch, cm, and a few otehrs I think
Just choose the selection tool, change the Style to Fixed Aspect Ratio, and enter the numbers 5 and 7. Then make your selection and elect Crop under the Image menu. Voila!
OK, that all sounds great. How it works for me now in FW is that I can select the area I want to crop and then adjust the values.
In PS I can't do that so when I set the h/w to 5x7 in the option bar and have a fixed ratio, will it crop whatever I'm selecting to 5x7?
Pretty much. Make sure you've got it set so that your long end is what you want it to be (horizontal or vertical). Go ahead and put try and crop. The rectangle will be fixed. You can't change the ratio
Thanks faidoi, pidge & Philip. Got it. It will take some getting used to. I guess that's what happens when a web guy gets into desktop publishing at work and has to learn how things are REALLY done. LOL.
Guess going to Adobe was inevitable seeing how they "bought" Macromedia.
