yeah, it's short notice, but i didn't know i was doing this for sure until about 10 minutes ago when i booked my flight. i'm going to be in nyc-manhatten for 2 full days, july 26 and 27, to do nothing but shoot, morning, noon, and night. i'm mainly looking to add to my stock inventory, concentrating on editorial content. this means primarily shooting candids and city activity. i plan on shooting from central park downto battery park, and as much as possible in between. for me, this is a rain-or-shine-the-hell-with-heat-and-humidity deal.

Just for the record, it is a Wednesday and Thursday. I would like to try to get up there but not sure it is a real possiblity....Wed. the 26th would be better than the 27th for work purposes....when are your getting in town?
my full days are weds and thurs. i'm flying into jfk tues pm and leaving fri am. i wish i had more control and advance notice, but unfortunately, i don't.
this really is one of those rare opportunities to be free to shoot and shoot and shoot. people, places, things. all kinds of lights, all kinds of situations. i'm looking at this as a chance to try to fill a catalog of "48 hours of NYC summer". possibilities are endless.
and, i'll even be carrying model releases, just in case i get lucky ;-)

I work in NYC and would like to possibly join up with you one evening if you're still out and about shooting. Looks like I could learn a lot just by shadowing you a bit. Let me know if that would be ok.
The forecast calls for a reasonably-promising scattered thunderstorms and low 80's, but any forecast that far off is just throwing darts around here. Ten days from now, it could snow. :-/

ok its with another photo group I am with we will be meeting there on the 26th around 7pm its about 18 bucks to go up top and its a bunch of us camera people going. who wants to come along please do.....
If you will be shooting with a tripod anywhere in Manhattan you have to have a permit or your equipment can be taken away. Just a little FYI. See link above.

Here is some of my info:
When going on Top of the Rock you want to time your visit so that you are there when sun starts to go down. There are no places to sit and security will not let you sit on the floor or light posts. So waiting for something up there is tiring. Also you cannot use normal tripods. You can use table top ones but they are not very effective especially in the wind. View on the one other hand is great.
If you will be shooting with a tripod anywhere in Manhattan you have to have a permit or your equipment can be taken away. Just a little FYI. See link above.

Also, seems like Central Park has a lot of restrictions regarding where tripods can and cannot be used. Is it hard knowing where those boundaries are, and why such a rule?

What is recommended then? Monopod? Also, how crowded does it get @ Top of the Rock? Do you need to get the unusually early to secure a good spot for your shots?

I'm not sure about monopods. You may need to email them and ask. I used table top tripod. As far as securing location it is not bad. People move around so if you want certain spot go there and wait 3-5 minutes and somebody will move. You'll need to be on 3rd level and go for a spot with the concrete column so you could setup your mini tripod. You'll see when you get up there.
Keep in mind that my mini tripods was $15. If you get high end model for $50 or more you maybe stable enought to get sharp images all the time.
Even if your shots don't come out perfect it is still a cool place to visit.

Its either a revenue issue (you need a license to use a tripod) or a crowd issue--tripods take up a lot of room.
