This one has me puzzled, I'm using Photoshop CS2 on windows XP. Photoshop displays images differently to other software and I'm not sure what to do about it. Photoshop (edit ->colour settings) says its set to sRGB-IEC61966-2.1 which I thought was web colors, but the images look good in photoshop and not elsewhere. In any other software the images look flat and desaturated. I can get photoshop to display the flat looking images by using the save to web feature and then reloading the image into photoshop.
How do I set photoshop so the colors I see match the colors other software displays? I get my prints done by a lab and they come out looking flat too so I need to change photoshop to match the prints...
Here is an example of what I mean - a screen capture from CS2. Underneath are two pics - one saved with the "save as" command, and one using "save to web". They look different in CS2 but not in other applications.
I'm sure there is a simple fix just not sure where to look.
Changing the proofing option while an image is open changes the setting for that image -- change it while no documents are open changes the default.
Just make sure the 'Proof Colors' is not checked and the settings in the 'Proof Setup' flyout do not matter. You only need to enable proofing if you are wanting to see the image as it would look on a different device (such as a printer).
hey, thanks for this thread. I had this exact same question a few days ago, but never got around to asking. i looked in photoshop and yep, I had cmyk as proof setup. now changed to rgb.

Thanks for that, didn't realise the settings were context sensitive. The "Proof Setup; flyout is grey out but selecting monitor or windows RGB seems to work much better.
