I started off this morning at B&H. As I was trying out a 12-24mm WA Nikon I was honored to have a bunch of the Lens Specialists stop what they were doing to pass around some of my Prints, taken mostly with a 70-200mm purchased a few weeks ago. The guy in the center is the dude I always go to and he asked me for a few prints for his collection. Now, that's the sh!t that makes your day.
They didn't have the 12-24 in stock (inconcievable!) so I went down the J&R(also out of stock) and then to Alkit where they had one. I had a beer and played with the lens a bit and then walked uptown. Starting at around 17th st I walked back up to 47th.
Any advice on how to best use this or any wide angle lens would be cool. Feel free to comment.
Have fun and experiment. Get low, try different angles, or get close to your subjects. You can use it to heavily accent a foreground subject while still having plenty of room for the background. My 12-24 has become one of my favorite lenses and I use it all the time for my personal work and for newspaper sutff. You'll love it.
edit: Oh yeah, be carefull doing portraits with it. Unless you want it like Kronus above, you'll get some distortion that makes body parts abnormally large or small and can certainly look weird at times.

stayed sharp all through set at f 3.5?
I've been seeing strange results of WA's on the web where I can't figure out the sweet spot. My results were inconsistant still keeping in mind that I was shooting handheld.
i have a 15mm that i love to play with, but i've found that the shots i like best are those taken from any angle EXCEPT normal standing height. as was said, i shoot from the ground quite a bit, and enjoy the bulbous nature of some very close-up shots.

Good question. Is it not true that 'infinity' starts closer to home on wider angled lenses?
