I was looking at Desolation II and feeling a little frustrated at the results. Not because of the ribbon winners, I thought they were all good photos, but because a number of pictures that really portrayed desolation were scored low, probably *because* they conveyed desolation so well. Desolation isn't pretty. This has inspired me to start another round of nominees for Oobies and Yappies. You can find explanations in this thread.

I am going to kick things off by nominating some pictures that were truly desolate and got punished for being so:
by HotShot7 I'm not sure that the soft focus is necessary, but it does create a slightly disorienting effect, like you're sinking in the mud. How can a picture that meets the challenge so perfectly get less than a 5?
