My friend has a Panasonic DMC-LZ5 which doesn't have a view finder...you look at the LCD to frame up the shot. Inside or in cloudy conditions, the image appears in the LCD no problem. A couple of days ago something happened and, in sunlight, the LCD appears to go blank (even if you shade it to see better.) It seems like it might have something to do with being overwhelmed by too much light or the LCD being too bright??? Has anyone heard of this problem and if so, is it a setting she messed up or do you think it requires repair? Thanks!

That's not a problem I've ever heard of. If there is too much light hitting the sensor, the lens will automatically stop down in order to lower the light levels. Check if the EVF is on, although I don't see why that would matter because it would be on all the time and not only in bright light, but check anyway (there is a small EVF/LCD button that switches between the two). I can't think of any setting that would do this either.

I have the same exact model. But i've never had that problem. The LCD starts shutting down like any other cam. on over exposure to light but comes right back. I would send it back. Or maybe she has'nt given u enough information. He/she could email me directly if they want to do a comparison.

Oops, I read that wrong. I thought it was an FZ5 not an LZ5. I'm not very familiar with that one, but the lens should still automatically stop down when light levels got too high. I know it does on my LC33 and FZ4, don't know why they'd change that feature.

By chance, if she's wearing polarizing sunglasses (being out in the sun and all) while looking at it, if the camera is tilted such a way the polarizer in the glasses will "cancel out" the lcd. -just a thought.
