Just got my Sony MVC-CD500 today, an upgrade, I thought, from my Mavica CD200, and was startled to find that there was no black & white mode. (Even though every review and spec site online says the camera has one! It doesn't.)

Could any current or former CD500 user please tell me how you got around that to create black and white? I've fiddled a bit with sepia mode and just desating the color, and the result isn't nearly as good as my 200 in bw mode. I've seen some really nice b/w photos credited to the 500 and would welcome any and all suggestions on how to accomplish this IN the camera, not in the computer. (I can't believe that sony removed this function!The clarity, however IS impressive.)

You shouldn't take pictures in b/w using the camera anyway because you will lose tonal information. Just take it in color and convert to b/w with channel mixer in photoshop.

Well that's one way. But more tedious since I am a serendipity shooter and loved the flexibility of being able quickly to shift into black and white when the scene or situation called for it. Plus desat-ing from color doesn't deliver the high drama. I know that die hard photoshoppers all disagree with me, but it's what my eye tells me. Thank you for the suggestion. If there isn't an internal getaround or kludge, I will do that.
