I voted the highest I ever did since I joined to DPC. I think people learn from mistakes, and comments... Excellent job for about all the submitters :)
Nothing against photographer, but I truly think there were better photos for the blue ribbon... Again, nothing against to photographer, or his work... I just think there were more qualified photos in this challenge for the first place.
:(
I think following photos are quite well, and very nicely done... as I mentioned before :)
...but maybe I am missing the point for this challenge :/

I donno about that; Larus's original won a ribbon and was DQ'd on fairly controversial grounds. His reshoot, won the blue, and it's in all respects a better image than the original, which is what the challenge was about...
I'm more concerned with one of the top finishers that appears to HAVE no "original" that it's a reshoot of...
I commented on more shots then I ever had before >.> then I decided to take a break and clean my car came back and it was over.. Damn it But well done everyone I didn't have time to enter this one.

I correct myself here...
Yes I did miss the point. It is an excellent take-II

Yeah I was thinking about this one as well. An image like that would have garnered tons of faves and notariety ;)

Yep -- and in this challenge that's a rule and not just part of the challenge description.
My idea too, beautiful as it is, it doesn't deserve it's place if it isn't a retake and I searched the portfolio and couldn't find any resemblence to justify a 'take two'.

this was a quote from kari1 to this photographer in question:

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.
First Impression - the most important one: What an awesome picture ... such vastness ... and so completely encompasssing.
Subject: It is beautiful .. I am not sure which picture this is a retake of ... It is not easily identified ... but if it is of Natures King .. then very well done .. and I think that his shot is improved from the comments you received. But if it is not that shot .. let me know which one ... :)
Composition: I think this works very well .. the angle that the shot is taken from is very good ... the slight up to the man and big down to the river. The lines of the mountans also create a wonderful leading line for the eye which then takes in the photographer. I would have liked slightly more of the cliff that the guy is standing on as this may have bought him more onto the vertical thirds.
Technical (Colour and light): I think that the black and white here is really good .. I would not think it works well for landscapes .. but this shot has opened those eyes ... I always like natural light .. .but this shot also has long exposure .. so how did you get him not to move?
To grow its vote?: Fantasic score as it is .. but to improve maybe a slight recrop .. and I don't know if that would result in the score being upped.
Summary: Well done .. congrats on the ribbon.
If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.
Cheers

I guess it could be looked at another perspective. And who's to say this isn't that same mountain?
As someone who did follow the rules and retake an existing shot in line with the comments made during the first challenge, I managed to score considerably lower than the first time around. I am not sure whether to laugh or cry!
However, there is an interesting lesson for me to learn here: context! My original shot was in Complimentary Colours and therefore there was a context for the composition. This time - as Take Two - there was no obvious context for the very "complimentary" nature of the composition. Ergo, don't re-do something that is very contextually dependent. :-)
I have to confess to wondering why some of the challenges bother to have a theme or a challenge context. While there is no doubt in my mind that the winning photographs tend be "awesome" in some way or another, not all of them seem to hit the spirit of the challenge. The obvious conclusion here is that it is the photo and not the photo-in-context-of-challenge that seems to hit the voters eye.
On the other hand: c'est la vie - and we are all vaguely aware of the phenomenon and therefore probably adjust accordingly.

PS on the other hand, both the original and the Take Two pictures I submitted could simply be crap! Chuckle
The first place is a retake of a ribbon winning picture.
In the challenge details it says: "...Pick one of your own (non-ribbon winning) past entries..." Ok it was DQ'ed but newer the less a ribbon.
If this rule isn't broken it sure is bended a lot.
So, if he didn't take the shot himself and it's not a re-shoot of one of his own photos, what's it doing on the front page?
Not following the challenge description is not grounds for a DQ.
In this case it wasn't just a description but a special rule.
If anyone suspects a rule violation a ticket should be submitted, rather than discussing it here, though.

So I did submit a ticket now. For both 1st and 2nd place.
I do not want to sound like a looser (though I maybe am) but In my opinon this is the right thing to do.
I feel that they both broke a rule in submitting their pictures.

I agree with number 2 (if it truly isn't a retake), but I don't agree with number 1, because he got DQed and lost his ribbon, so in fact it was a non-ribbon photo he made a retake of.

I set the shot up, and I planned it. But I wasn't able to click the release button and run 150meters up to get in place for a long exposure. It is a shot of myself, and its a retake of Natures King. The mountain is different because the first I shot in Croatia, and well I didn't have the bux to travel down there again to use the same mountain.
I also tried to improve from the comments I got, but I still wanted landscape to be my landscape.
Sorry to hear so many of you think it doesn't belong on the ribbon list.
Sorry,
I see it now. I just didn't see the connection until now that I found the original. This is surely a retake.

I submitted a ticket to withdraw my previous ticket.

That's ok, mine has already been validated and approved by the SC.
