Nudity. Nudity is an acceptable form of art on this site. Photographs may not, however, show a penis or a vagina or any acts of sex. Nudity should be presented in a tasteful manner.
Ok, so if nudity is an acceptable form of art, then why are penis and vaginas not allowed. I understand the no sex act, if that is what you want, then do it else were, but if you are going to allow nudity, allow nudity, don't limit the case, a penis and a vagina can be shown in tasteful ways, I understand the admins not wanting them, but it seems to me if you are going to accepte nudity, then you have to accept nudity fully, and not partially covered up.
Ok, so I guess my point is, more on the penis side, no pun intended, but what I am saying is that a penis is a very noticable, and a very important part of a male, and by removing it from a nude, almost entirely removes the nude male, you can show a naked guy, but without the penis, he still isn't really nude.
By keeping the vagina and the penis out of the photos, it helps to set a standard where as when you include the two then you have to determine what is art and what is porn.
from an administrative viewpoint it's an easy place to 'draw a line'.

I don't believe this could be said any better or simpler... I agree completely.
In deference to those that "tried to raise me right" I agree with Gordon on this one. Even though we're amatuers I know that my goal is to produce art. Your comments and observations help me to enhance the technical aspects of my work here and often help me to see something I hadn't seen before. Regardless, if something is composed for art, I don't see why having minors on the site should make any difference. Mag's comment about this being an easy place to "draw a line" makes a lot of sense to me so I support that on this site. However, if I produce something that I believe is art I want someplace where I can display it to a community like this one so that I can get some feedback on my attempts.
So . . . draw the line with penii and vaginas for this site but don't do it because children might see it. Do it as an expedient to goobers like me that have difficulty determining where the art blends into porn. I absolutly love women's bodies and, thus, my interpretation of what is art may be skewed. Conversely, just because a nude doesn't show his penis or her vagina, I'm not gonna assume its art or tasteful or germaine to any particular challenge. Non-penis art can be gratuitous, too.
As for entering a "tool" for this contest. That I would have found funny. Depending on the composition, I'd have scored that in the middle to high category just for having the chutzpah to submit it.
also keep in mind there are minors who visit this site and participate in the challenges.

I'm assuming it is just me, but I don't see what this comment has to do with the current discussion.
Well Gordon, someone asked why the penis and vagina are not allowed in nude photos at DPC, and after all the explanations above nobody mentioned the minors who participate in the challenges, and that even though it is considered art, it could be mistaken for something other than art, so to help protect the site, the penis and vaginia are not allowed.
and if I remember correctly the admins of DPC mentioned this in a discussion some time ago.
The reason is to make a definable and enforceable rule, not dependent on the esthetic proclivities of the site council members.
As the parent of a minor who occasionally participates here, I signed a waiver acknowledging that images posted here might not be suitable for young kids, and accepting personal responsibility for monitoring the situation.
Please feel free to submit all the artistic and tasteful nudes you want to ....

I think that the reasons given make perfect sense, particularly that it just makes a convenient place to stop us venturing into the very grey area of what is or is not pornographic.
However, the viewing of genitalia isn't something that I see has much to do with if minors can access the site or not, that was all my comment was in reference too. Far too many discussions degenerate into a meaningless 'for the children' type excuse when it isn't necessary or relevant.
I wasn't going to swing it for the current challenge, but a discussion of the current challenge sparked my interest in the question. I can see the reasons, but I still see the statement as contradictory. If nudity is accepted when done artisticly, then you shouldn't deny all the body. Thats like saying pictures of flowers are excepted, but don't show the flowers petals. Ok so its not exactly the same thing, but it is similiar. I also believe that there is a function on this site to hide the nude pictures from those who don't want to see them, or whose parents don't want them to see them. If this isn't enough, mabey there should be an explicit nudity selection.

There is not a function to hide nude pictures. It is possible to hide nude pictures after they have been voted upon, mainly to enable people to access the site from their place of work, if there has been a nude picture that has won a ribbon (i.e., is on the front page)
In no way is this supposed to be a protection mechanism to stop people seeing nude pictures, or a way to provide a nude free experience on dpc.
As explained - the current rule is in place to give an easily recogniseable, enforceable and repeatable boundary between 'artistic nudes' and 'pornography'. As pornography is famously impossible to define (the 'I know it when I see it' definition) the current boundary is placed well on the side of caution. The rules have to be enforceable in a fair and repeatable way and this current rule is easy to recognise and apply. It is also entirely arbitary and thus not contradictory to some percieved reason for existing.
