What is wrong with my camera??!!!!

I took this photo last night(about 5pm) with flash. manual: settings posted with photo. cant really see this before i did a levels adjustment. then it really POPedout! I over did the nuetral levels so everyone could see it better. this is the first shot that i have seen like this. I took photos after this and no problems. Im on folder 163 with last photo taken numbered IMG_6335. I just got this camera at the end of jan this year.
Im spazzing hard here...please can someone tell me what the heck is happening with my baby.

Looks like you had the shutter speed set faster than your camera's flash sync speed. What was your shutter speed on this image?

Also, can you post the original?

I'm going to vote for it being dodgy card or file. The shadow to the right of the subject looks pretty constant. Also, look at the bottom left. There's a section there that comes from the bottom right of the frame.

shutter was 1/60sec.

heres the orginal

if its a thing with the card is there something i can do to fix it? I just did a (in camera) delete then format right before i took this photo

Definitely a hosed-up file. The top portion is actually shifted left from the bottom portion.

OK, seeing the original, it's not a flash sync problem.

Looks like a corrupt file to mee too, I'd guess it's the card (or the transfer) as well.

Did you turn your camera off before it was finished writing the pic? what shooting mode were you in? single, multiple or self timer? how about battery power? Strong, Weak?

since i didnt delete my card this morning i pulled the shot off it again to see if it was just a transfer issue...guess what...It was!

Also, you might want to try transerring the file from the card to your PC again to see if the problem occured there.

I reformat mine every time I insert it in camera. I got burned ONCE with my D60 when camera thought that there was something else on the CF card, and basically I lost all shots (nothing crucial fortunately) I shot on that card.

I also reformat mine every time I put it back into the camera. Keeps the junk from piling up.

Think of it this way.

Erasing images is like erasing them from a blackboard. A "ghost" of the image is still on the card. Over time those ghosts make it harder and harder for the camera to find your data. This leads to corrupted files.

Formatting is like doing a wet wipe of the blackboard. Everything is clean, no ghosts. :)

For dSLRs I reformat every time I use the card. For my pocket cam I do it once a month.

I use my camera a LOT and I never take my card out of the camera I just download on the PC and the wipe my images I re format probably every second of third time but I will do it everytime if that is better
Is there any thing else I should be doing?

Buy a USB 2.0 card reader. much cleaner experience... I only used cabled camera when I was once on vacation and had a laptop w/o card reader... a real pain.

I even think that if you monitor techbargains.com, you can run into a free reader after MIA...

I'd say its the CF card your using. what card did you have in at the time???
