I'm spending 7 weeks in Spain this summer, and taking my E-500 and lenses with me. I've tried looking for travel insurance that has a higher limit on valuables, but most max out at £200-£300. I bought my camera as a £550 bundle, (although the camera plus 1 lens would have been £400 and the second lens £200, and the bundle included other things that I won't take, like a printer, and the original case - not sure where I stand with this)
Anyone have any tips on getting insurance to cover this kind of limit on valuables? If need be I could get insurance separately to my main travel insurance, as its already slightly more complicated by me being an unaccompanied under18, an unusual length of holiday and wanting to probably get hazardous activities cover too.
but google throws up a numberof others. The insurance tends to be annual, but that is no bad thing. It will cover associated items, such as laptops, as well.
I've been looking for a similar solution, as I travel quite a bit during the summer. The problems I have been encountering are that most of the people that will insure my equipment are geared toward th4e pro market, and want to include a studio and associated stuff. Also, the home area is an issue, as I am not in the US or UK.
I think I have found some one here locally, but I will have to represent myself as at least a semi-pro, and For some odd reason, they won't cover me in a war zone...
Check your home insurance first. I actually paid for independent travel insurance for my camera gear until someone here suggested checking with my home insurance. I was already covered without realising it! For about £3,000 worth I think.
