Thanks for the lead! I just registered. I don't know what to put, but I want to make sure my handle doesn't get taken over by another geek so I went ahead and put chalcone there. Looks like a cool site.
yeah, very cool site...and a very cool rating system...not possible to give a negative...the worst you can do is give a "0" which doesn't affect your score...i've heard a lot of complaining about scores around here...
They also seem to have some pretty interesting editing rules.
Images may not be digitally manipulated in an image editing program ie, Photoshop except for the following reasons:
. Copyright notices and (straight-edged) frames
. Cropping, resizing and sharpening
. Touching up (dust, slight imperfections)
. Levels, Curves, Color adjustment, Hue, Saturation etc. for minor image enhancements.
. Multiple exposures to get proper exposure values
. Stitching for panoramic photos
. Color conversion to Black and White, Sepia, Duotone etc.
. Perspective correction for parallax or lens distortion.

They sound spot-on to me... you listening site admins? ;-)
And the amazing thing is .... my experimental pic got 20 hits and 2 comments in less than 4 hours! This 'trek earth' site is definitely a good second fiddle to my DPC portfolio.

Hey, I saw your comment on the trek site. Thanks! I'm only learning now how the point system works there. I also just found out that I can only post one picture a day (I got a site note saying that the next uploading can be done in 13 hours). As I said awhile back, second fiddle to DPC :).

I've been enjoying this website a fair bit since I first posted this, and I REALLY think that the DPC site could do with adapting some of the ideas there.
The workshop is a SUPERB idea... a very quick and simple way of showing the community what post-editing you could carry out on any shot that you think needs it. If you don't want people doing this to your own pictures, you can disable it for whatever pictures you want of yours.
Alerts profile... get sent emails when your favourite photographers upload new pictures.
Maybe it might also be possible to start categorising pictures based on where they are taken, so it would be possible to browse them by location.

I see how useful the workshop is to a certain degree. But I turned that preference off as I'm a bit sensitive about the idea of allowing just about any critiquer to manipulate my work in public.
The alerts option, however, is pretty good! That one is surely useful.
