Dang! And I thought the one I got tonight was good (here). I suppose if I had my tripod and wanted to sit out in the pouring rain, I could've gotten some better ones after the sun had set. Very nice shots you have there.
This was my effort in Toronto last night. It was about the third shot I took, best of the lot, shot 30 seconds f16 at ISO100..... the worst part is I missed 50 shot standing there watching the storm roll by.....
Thanks all yes I was pretty excited about #1, on the LCD screen it did not look like that and it blew me away whe I got it on the PC.

as you can see in the other pics there are some very annoying highway lights in the way.
I was in the parking garage where I work at... its covered and open on 2 sides so I can stay dry.

We also saw this lightning last night, but were to amazed to take pictures. The centre of the storm went right over the house. It shook everything right down to the foundations with the thunder, it was deafening. The lightening was so bright that it lit the rooms completely, and that was with the binds closed tightly. I can not recall a more powerfully vivid storm. By the way, great image from down at the harbourfront.
it was the best storm I've seen since I've been here (actually it's only the second one I've seen!) We were in a good spot to see it.

I love taking lightning shots, just don't see enough of them to get the chance.
I notice you had a cross screen filter on your camera for these shots. Did that help to make the lightning bigger and brighter by any chance? I had a cross screen with me last night, so I'm wondering if I should've been shooting with it on.
nope, no cross screen filter..... infact, I'm going to show my ignorance here and say I don't know what a cross screen filter does..... never been a fan of using filters so don't know much about 'em.
This os the on good shot I was able to get in Toronto last night. Not as good as I would have liked, but I don't have much in the way of manual settings on the camera.
Here is my attempt from last night in Toronto. These are my very first shots of lightnings ever. I thought they were good, but then I saw all the other photos in this thread and my pride went down the drain. I have a lot to learn :-((
