This photo scored so low? Several one's and two's.None give me explanation what is bad with this photo.IMO this pic shows the new TREND in clothing in Chicago area {especially in teenage crowd)!Photo is very emotional and have to be studied before you say "UGH" or "WHORE"!
I've no idea Kosta. I liked her attitude and I imagined that the trend was prevalent. To say 'whore' or the like is very OTT and unnecessary - this is someone's daughter for pity's sake! She's got attitude - which you caught very well and the composition is good - and she certainly looks mean (could probably take a few punches in a cat fight!) ;) I gave it a 7.
I didn't vote in the Trend challenge, but I don't think you would have gotten a really high score from me. Without reading your comments from when you entered it, I couldn't make any connection with "Trend". Maybe this was too localized to do well. Actually, I didn't think she was wearing pajamas... I thought(think) she was in sweats.
That said I think the photo has too much merit for a 1 or 2... You probably would have gotten a 5 or so from me.
The stance (posture/attitude) and facial expression seem to be the focus of the picture. As such, the capture is quite strong and worthy, IMO. The setting, even manner of the photo, support this. I'm afraid you've fallen victim to those among us, who prefer a given topical criterium to criteria relevant to an individual photograph, at least when viewed quickly and without much reflection.
It is this 'attitude' especially, I find 'trendy'. Mind you, it took me ten seconds to study it and another ten to come to this conclusion...

I couldn't find trend in feeding babies either, its natural thing, God given,unless you let babies feed themselves in Japan or wherever!
I didn't vote in this challenge, but would have given it a 4. The reason is, I don't think it fits the challenge (Trends). What is the trend? Is it "prostitution", "homeless", "wavy hair", "gym clothes"?? I (in my opinion) have no idea what the "trend" is by looking at the picture and none of the items I mentioned above are Trends. That's probably why it didn't do well. :(
Now, if this were entered in the "Desolation" challenge I'd give it 6 or 7 because it fits much better (it's a good picture).

I never really thought about that, that could very well be the "trend" in this shot. However for me, it's a "stretch" given the elements in the picture. If the connection to the topic is a stretch (imo), even though it's possible, it's still a stretch and I mark down for that.

My view of this photo is that you have captured a visceral emotion from a subject. Your composition with her body extending up the background from light into shadow and the shadow of her hair framing her face cause the scowl on her face to be one of the more prominently lighted parts of your subject. The grayscale also helps the model to stand out as an entity rather than her clothing. After your explanation of the PJ's I can see your take on it but I think this image stands as a great example of an emotive photo. You would receive a much higher score from me if this photo was in a challenge called "Facial Expressions" or something like "Street Scenes". Technically its sound and it has artistic merit. Too bad on the challenge but congrats on the photo.

I did not say the area behind her. I said the area around her face. Like her hair and stuff. I would have liked to have seen more of her face. Okay. But since you brought it up. Maybe filling the frame with more of her and less of the building behind her would work too.
As far as "what kind of reason" -- its the kind of reason I choose to use. I gave it a 6, which I thought was a fairly good score. What do you want me to say?

Maybe the reason was that your TREND photo was bombarded with ones and you just wanted to get even?
Actually i spend a lot of time in the high school since i have a son in 9th and a son in 11th grade
Why ask for reasons why someone voted on your photo and then bash them once they give you a reason...seems rather silly to me.
My trend photo was not the best in the world, it was hurried and rather sloppily done, but then again I am not apealling to everyone as to why they voted as they did.
If you ask for someones opinion and they give it to you...deal with it or don't ask in the first place
Pitsaman....I know how you feel when the voting doesn't go the way you expected. I received 5 ones on my Desolation picture....but everyone's entitled to their views, (that's what makes the world interesting!) and I take it with a grain of salt and press on. I love your picture, but I would have guessed it was about a different trend then her clothing (like homelessness or prostitution becoming a trend) and would have given you a 7 or 8, had I voted. It's a wonderful picture, but she looks pissed off at the world, so I would have focused more on the attitude she was sending off, then her clothing.
I've seen the pajama trend here in Michigan with younger teen girls, so I know where you're coming from (good idea, too) but they're usually fleece pants with duckies on them and stuff - more obvious pajamas than what your model is wearing. If it was more obvious that she was wearing PJs, I'm sure you would have gotten higher scores. I didn't vote on this, but I definitely would have scored it higher if I knew she was wearing PJs...
I gave it a 6 because I thought it was a good photo. I probably would have gone higher if I had a better understanding of what the trend was. I had a hard time telling what the trend was, especially given the title of "New." I was just a bit confused while trying to identify the trend, like a couple other folks here.
I did not recognize the pj attire of the female subject in the photo, but I have noticed the pj trend, in the mpls, mn area.... and not just teen age people. I gave the picture a seven...... it is a good b&w.
