I've been asked to do portraits for a local house that provides living facilities for special needs people. There are five guys that live in the house and the lady that runs it wants to have individual portraits done, and then a group photo also.
I have a meeting with her on Wed. and she wants to know about the pricing and locations and all that jazz.
I've dealt with model shoots many times, but I've never had to charge someone for my work. The State will be paying for it...so it's not like it's really coming out of her income....so I think there is a little wiggle room in the pricing really...
What would you guys charge? Should I charge for a sitting fee and prints or just do one big package deal?
I'm really looking forward to doing to portraits...I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun...
Yeah, you might have to check local prices and price yours somewhere in between. I know that here in California, we have prices all over the board, from $7 family package @ Wal Mart to $200-300 package from local studio for HS Grad pix.
Since the State is paying for it, it's coming out of your pocket. (Tax dollars)
I was hoping you were in California, in which case I'd suggest getting what the Governor makes, about $22 million/picture I think ...

Out here (and I guess in New York) I think it unlikely you'd find any graphic or other professional shops/services charging less than about $60/hour -- my typical "non-profit rate" (named for what it makes your business) is about 1/2-1/4 of that, depending on the degree of poverty and worthiness of the charity.
I'd sell them the prints for your cost plus 20% or so to cover "handling" costs.
