On the topic are there any similar courses or alternatives to this that are free?
In my limited experience, any time I want to know how to do something I plug "__________ photoshop tutorial" into Google and get a bunch of hits. Most of them are freebies, but the combination of basic instruction and experimentation goes pretty far.
Um. The poor kid is 20. If it wasn't a gift from parents or what have you, then he probably spent every dime he had to get it. You never know someone else's circumstances.

You don't think that was rude? How is it your place to comment on anyone else's finances? At least that's the impression I get from the question mark, a sort of "huh?" statement as far as I can tell? Eh, whatever. I've made my point, whether or not you get it is out of my hands.
Just to come back and clear up;
To rex: while i appreciate i have an expensive camera i did pretty much scrimp and save for months to get the sucker. And if i had any spare cash right now, which i don't, i would love to get a zoom lens, but me and my girlfriend have just had an offer accepted on a house, so ALL my money is headed in that direction.
