I realise its a bit of a cliche to ask (this question gets asked every week), but would I have scored better if I had a different title for my photo
I realise there are flaws with this photo but I thought it was worth more than 5.269 - so was it the title that dragged my score down?
I know that traditionaly the saying is "like ships passing in the night" but I have also heard it said "like ships in the night" and I thought that might have been alright...
Would I have done better with a different cliche - maybe "in the midnight hour"?
I remember thinking it looked like the ship was moored. Others made the same comment. I also didn't like the person who was too bright and became a subject unto himself in the shot.
It was a nice attempt, but to me having the pier in front of the boat means the ship is not really to focus of the image, and also means it looks stationary, not "passing"
I don't think a different title would have made enough of a difference to worry about...
A technically good photo that just "missed the boat" on the challenge topic and title chosen. Live and learn. The past is the past. What's done is done. To each his own. If at first you don't succeed...
I gave you a 5. It's an average photo. Nothing special. There isn't much detail in the boat. The boat is hidden behind the dock with that distracting light.
I did note that there weren't ships in the picture but a ship. That didn't subtract from the score I gave you. I should've given it a 4 instead, but a 5 is fine.
I think your cliche let you down. The phrase is "like ships passing in the night." You have one boat, tied to a pier.
In the shot itself, although you got lighting, color, and exposure pretty well nailed, the pier blocks the view of the boat, so that the photo is a little busy and lacks a clear focal point or subject.
I gave you a "4" because it was an "average" shot ("5" for me), with one point taken off because it didn't match the cliche very well.
