Can anyone give me some pointers on taking good clear shots of spider webs?

I have a large spider that has constructed a huge web, conservatively estimated at 3-4 feet from side to side, and it is awesome.

I know that I am going to have to use a tripod and manual focus to capture it but any other pointers would be extremely welcome.

It needs to be backlit. So have a light source from behind or off to the side and you'll get what you want.

Is this best done during the day or should i try for an early morning or late evening shot?

If the sun rises or sets behind it, go for daylight! If not you'll need a slave flash or halogen work light. I've seen some amazing shots using the sun as the source. Most amazing one I saw was kind of droopy with water droplets on it.... it totally rocked. You might wanna get a spray bottle and try misting it with some water!

Thanks for the input, i don't think the sun will help me out since the web is facing north/south but i may be able to get my work light out there.

Plus i really want to try to get the spider in there as well, she is huge.

I saw a photo like the one you are describing and it was incredible.
