I have several cloth backdrops, basically all made the same way. I buy end of the bolts at Wal Mart usually less than $2/yd and at least 5 yards still left on the bolt. Then I have them surged around the edges to make them washable and keep them from fraying. Then I have little rings sewed every 12 inches apart across the one end to hang them up with. I have Pink, silver, white and black satin backs. White and off white muslin backs. I have a few holiday and special backs made from cottons like clouds, Christmas and Valentine's Day. I also have a few vinyl tableclothes with special prints on them. But my favorite back is a natural backround in my backyard created by a fence line that is covered in greenery this time of the year.
I have a close friend who is a photographer for PCA and he was the one who told me to use tablecltothes. That's what they use in the studio for some of the speciality backs they have, and they hold up well to kids and dirt too.
