I shot a junior musical production last weekend and came back with #$%#$. Soft focus or completely OOF, oversaturated, overexposed, badly composed, etc. I have two more such events in the next two weeks, and need to get this right.
This week, I read through the forums here (particularly BobsterLobster's amazing photo gig/concert mentorship, and think I've learned a lot, in theory at least. Here's what I'm planning to change this week:
1) Higher ISO (I'll use 400)
2) Different lens (I'm renting the Canon 70-200mm/f2.8 rather than using my 50mm/1.4)
3) I'll shoot in high quality jpeg rather than raw, which takes me too much time to pp.
4) I'll set my saturation & contrast settings down -1.
5) I'll try to get images of the actors looking slightly into the camera rather than out of it.
6) I'll use a single point of focus and go for the face/eyes.
7) I'll use center weighted metering (or would partial be better?)
Is there anything else I can do to try to get better images?
