i have nikon 4500

i have been using Lithium batteries series which was supplied to me by the dealer, it voltage reads 7.4V - 680mAh. Drawback : doesn't last long

i was planning to by battery pack with 7.4V - 3 amp for maximum use, is it possible to use or i may damage my Camera.

If the voltage is the same is should not harm the camera.

The battery you want to move to has almost three time the CAPACITY, but the voltage appears to be the same from your description.

thanx,

i have been using nikon 990 for long time, but for only indoor purpose. battery was never a issue b'cos of power adapter, but when I purchased 4500 recently, i purchased 4 Ni-MH battery for 990 which is 1.2V-2100 mAh (2.1Ah) and that has put me query. 990 requirement is 6V - 0.8 mAh & batteries are almost 3 times it requirement.

I love trekking, for all those years i have been using SLR (not digital) camera - so no big issue for battery charging, downloading images, electronic malfunctions & etc. But with Digital it starts with Battery Issues than the other stuffs.

Secondly we have used battery packs for video camera and which use to last long 5/6 hrs continuously. That’s the reason I was finding the way in(out).

Amps is not a measure of capacity. It's a measure of current.

mAh or milli-amp-hours is a measure of capacity. It's a rating that says this battery can provide so many milliAmps for an hour. It's a very different thing

The 3A marking, only means that the battery is capable of putting out 3Amps. That may be 3A for an hour, it may be 3A for 2 seconds. Without a capacity in mAh, it tells you nothing about how long the battery will last, let alone what it will do when hooked up to a camera.
