Hello all. I am going Scotland later this month and I need some help with buying a sufficient bag (one that will keep my equipment dry) and if there are any other necessary things I may need or need to know. Any help at all is appreciated.
The Lowepro all weather (AW) bags are good. Also, a rain poncho for when you're out and about is good as well. They're usually big enough to cover you and your bag.
Also, to keep the camera dry when on a tripod waiting to take a shot, use a shower cap. (There'll probably be one in the hotel room that you can use)
I envy you. I've always wanted to visit Scotland. I am of Scottish descent; have a crest, kilt pattern and the whole ball of wax.
As a youth I was told I was a DIRECT descendant of a bastard line of the Scottish royal family. I still have no idea what that means but, being who I am, that seems more appropriate now than it did then. Bottoms Up! LOL!

Never mind all the wet gear, just pack the Bermuda shorts and plenty of suncream, it`s positively tropical in this part of the world !!

Seriously..it`s a good idea to be prepared, but don`t go overboard you do get dry days in Scotland too :)
To give you an idea, I`ve been photographing soccer every Saturday afternoon and some evenings midweek since last August and only had two occasions when I had to protect the camera equipment...and that`s right through the winter months.
If you can manage, I would recommend visiting the "Trossachs" which is only 30 minutes drive from the industrial central belt but is really a miniature "Highlands" with a host of mountains and lochs to walk round and photograph.
Have recently returned from my second trip. My top tip if your walking is not to buy too big a backpack, fully laden mine was 42lbs.
As a Scotsman I must respectfully disagree. My philosophy is to take everything, including the kitchen sink, to photo shoots. That way you always have everything you need.
Here is how it works. You take every concievable piece of equipment in existence but you actually use none of it. But if you fail to do so you will need each and every one many, many times. You will curse yourself repeatedly over and over again for the oversight.
My way you save yourself all that self deprication! :)

When I was in Scotland (14 days) I think it drizzled a few minutes and was sunny the rest of the time - September time frame. I actually got sunburnt in Edinburgh.
The AW cover on the Lowepro bags can be tucked away if not needed.
