Does anyone know how I could do this? I have an idea but I'm not sure how to execute it. Basically, I want to photograph my son, who has very pale green eyes, with an object reflected in one or both of them. Any ideas?
Generally, the catch lights in the eyes take on the shape of what is producing the light. So, you might be able to achieve what you want by using the object to create the catch light.
By that, I mean use the object as a reflector. Light him as normal and then put a LOT of light on the object. You won't be able to put it very far from though.
From working on this image, I can tell you that yoy need to have significant DoF, basically deep enough to cover the distance from the subject to the reflection.
Dof of a reflection is basically the same as if it were that far behind/in-front of the subject.
If you want for example to show an apple reflecting in his eyes, you would light him minimally in a dark space, hang or hold the apple right in front of the eye and light the apple quite a lot. Then shoot from an angle just slightly above or beside the apple so its not in the shot.
