I have done a shoot with a set up as he is explaining, but it was with film on an old and well-loved Nikon F.
Images were for evidence in an investigation for NCIS while in the Navy.
It allows me to show detail of an image that with a regular lens I would have had a major difficulty in getting.
Also when I did this, I did not have a coupler ring to attach the two lenses together with, I used electrical tape, worked great, and yes using duck tape did cross my mind, the clean up would have been a pain.
