Neil, a bunch of folks I know have done RAGBRAI - the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. Total of about 500 miles with I think seven days of riding. Most ride as part of a "team" so if you don't want to ride one day, you can drive the support vehicles instead. I do know that they ride regardless of the weather, though. If it rains, they ride. I think the only time they'll pull riders off the road (and I don't know where they go if they do!) is during electrical storm activity.
I'd planned on attempting it this year but my schedule just doesn't permit. Sounds like it would be great fun, though! And 50 miles a day is definitely do-able. |
