You could interpret "from the ground up" very broadly, such as any photo taken at an angle between horizontal and vertical, but whether anyone else would agree with that wide interpretation is a different matter entirely...
I was obviously thinking of shooting something from the perspective of being close to the ground or something that is coming out of the ground. However, "from the ground up" can also mean the beginning of something. For example: "From the ground up, this table was built to support over 300 pounds."
that's true. however just so you know, you are now flirting with the 'Voter Bafflement Zone...' ;)

This particular challenge has become a little tougher since the 'cliche predictor' thread....
I really didn't like that thread at all. That's why I didn't post in it. It really bugs me that some folks don't take into consideration that there are newbie and novice photographers in here. Those shots that they spoke of in that thread are NOT 'cliche' for those folks. Everyone can't have a high end camera and everyone can't make phenomenal photos.
I'll be sure to check all of *their* results when the voting for that challenge is completed and see how they stack up :)
I was slightly bothered as well, because I am worried it will discourage people from posting "cliche" shots.
I hope people realize that cliches are cliches for a reason. Some people may be disgusted by cliche shots, but many people really like those types of shots. That's what makes them cliche!
And I think the fact that 2 of the top 5 were water shots speaks for itself. In fact, the majority of the water shots were in the top 50 last challenge, and that's even when quite a few people were rating the water photos lower than others simple because they were cliche.

I agree with you.. I even received one comment on mine stating that this voter was reserving his higher scores for the non-water shots...
I can understand that scoring all these 'same subject' photos could become tedious if you don't like the shots. I would recommend solving that problem by not trying to score all the shots in one sitting.
This type of voter is not voting on the merit of each individual shot, and this type of voting will remain. I am not complaining about that. Scoring well in one of these challenges says something because of the diversity of voters we have here. Some voters are totally subjective and could care less about the technical prowess in a photograph. Others could care less what the subject is and will criticize a misaligned pixel.
Take "got toast" for instance... 11 people gave that shot a score of 1. I can't really fathom that at all.. It was a great photo IMHO. If those 11 ones had been 5,6, or 7, I think the outcome of that challenge would have been dramatically different for Arnit....
