SO i buy this old house 7 year ago, and it has a large inefficient gas furnace. it's even rusty. i never have it looked at and it works fine. i am not cold.
with rising gas prices and a known inefficent furnace (55%!) we investigate a new one. we have a hot water boiler type system. 4 out 5 furnace folk recomend going electric. the math works, figuring i'll save $75-100 a month in fuel costs. Only one brand is offered, Argo.
That was October, I spend $4500 on this new furnace. This is now march 3. It is again, broken. I am cold. It is Sunday morning. The repair guys are coming...again. The 5th time in as many months. 4 times i have awoke on sunday morning to a cold house. At least it's under warranty - for now.
Argh.
