Not much on the S7000 yet other than it's due in October, should have a 6MP effective CCD and will be priced around $799.
Personally, I think Fuji should've skipped this camera and went right to the s7000. They put a couple of nicer features on it compared to the 602, but like the boneheads at Olympus, put them on the 3MPx camera instead of a 5 or 6 MPx. Is it just me or does this camera look fat and ugly? Doesn't have that cool sleek design and professional look of the 602z. Maybe its just me.
Looks like a DSLR. At 10x optical (equivalent to 350mm), it looks like a pretty good deal. But Gawd, take off that ugly Finepix logo; Replace it with Fuji ... or Canon. ;)
I looked at the bigger pic and it looks so bulky and ugly, because it is shown with an adaptor screwd on it. I think it looks a lot like the 602, but this adapter seems bigger.
The big zoom and increased dynamic range for that price looks interesting for a lot of budgets I guess. When you do normal sized photo's you don't really need more mp.
I wonder if it has some kind of image stabilization and if the Oly T-CON17 1.7x teleconverter will fit.
Personally I am more interested in the dSLR's now, but this looks like a great tool to start with.
Looks like a great camera but not a great leap up from the 602. The next step for myself will be DSLR.
I don`t think any 602 owners would bother with the s5000 when the s7000 in around the corner and then your getting into D10 range.
Oh, and the S7000 is likely to have less optical zoom due to the larger sensor.
There's also rumblings about an S9000, so anything about the S7000 really is just guesswork.
That's right the 6/12mp is the same size as the current 3/6 (1/1.7").
I wonder how it compares to the F717. That one uses a 2/3" (bigger, larger photodiodes). But with a good lens is could come close, the 1/1.8" 5mp Sony V1 comes very close as well.
S7000 Announcement - looks pretty much like a 602 with a 6mp sensor ... "the most heavyweight imaging capability ever seen in a 'prosumer' camera" ... and a few upgraded components (better EVF & LCD).
I think I will trade in the 602 for a S7000.
Lately I ran into serious resolution problems, so the bigger output is nice, that is when the resolving power of the CCD is better. Already got all the other accesoires.
It has kept the speed (5fps at 6/12mp). New raw output, b&w color setting (602 only does that in a program mode) and cable release socket (miss that). Fuji also hints that the S7000 can handle FAT32.
Depending on the quality of the output I might even postpone the dSLR plans.

Read the specs carefully - Top (3.3 fps) and final 5 (2 fps) are slower than the 602, first indications are that the JPEG compression is higher (6 megapixel output = 1.5MB), the S5000 has continuous AF not the S7000, max aperture of f8, max ISO of 800...
As far as I'm concerned the S5000 is a step down from a 602 and the S7000 a step sideways. I'm waiting for the S9000 which will hopefully combine the features of the S7000 and S5000 :-)

Where are you seeing this? I still see 5fps for top & final 5. Only the 40 frame mode has dropped in speed, but you can now use it in 3mp mode!

Fuji are definitely quoting continuous AF on the 7000. F8 is a downer - I use F11 quite a lot. The loss of ISO1600 is no biggy at all, I never go beyond 400.

Same response as people gave to the S700, and look how long that's taken to come to the market!
Reckon it could be that the reduced sensor size (S5000 = 1/2.7" vs S602 = 1/1.7") has increased the noise levels, could be why ISO1600 has been dropped. Hopefully the S7000 won't be as bad as it's a 1/1.7" sensor (still got a damn sight more sites packed into the area though)

Yes, it doesn't seem to offer a 6mp Fine mode, only Normal. For me it doesn't matter, I would shoot 12mp Fine only and Raw. I think they don't offer TIFF anymore, because it would get unsuable huge for a camera of this kind to handle. RAW will be the 6mp output of the CCD and the software will interpolate to 12mp (now save as TIFF) and when you want to, back to 6 again.

The S7000 is simply the 602 follow-up. The S5000 is the new 3800 with more functionality.
I hope the S9000 is a true dSLR with a very low price. :)
