I have to admit I usually enter with no intention of winning or even getting a 6+ score, and in fact will choose a shot that I know a number of people will not like..I like to see if there are others who will appreciate someone seeing things in a different way..I did this for the best of 2005, and quite a few other times..the strange thing is that this site has actually helped me enormously in gaining the confidence to shoot the way I see things, not what I think will win..

I've been less and less concerned with score and more confident that I can "say" what I want to say--no matter how it is received.

I think a good number of people who have been on DPC for a long time have settled into their own styles, irrespective of whether those styles are likely to ribbon or not. Once you're confident in what you want to shoot, scores don't seem to matter so much any more :o)

Usually I just shoot pictures however I feel like and don't worry too much about how it will score. Althought every once in awhile I'll enter something I know will score high...
I learned a long time ago that the only reason I submitted to DPC was to please the other members of DPC. Now I shoot for myself - what, when, and how I like.
I still enjoy visiting the site whenever I can, but have not entered a challenge in a long time.
I suspect there are a number of folks (including myself) who joined DPC to improve their photography skills. For them, the comments are more useful than the scores. Tell me what I did right, or what I could have done better. Show me a different approach that maybe I wasn't aware of and might be able to use in the future. I will always consider what others have to say about my photography, because that is how I will continue to learn. Even if I don't agree with a comment, I still have to justify to myself the reason I disagree, and that improves my skill, as well. That said, I always shoot for myself.
I enter 'hoping' for a ribbon but confident enough to know I took the picture for me. I've entered every challenge since joining and will try to continue to do so simply because it gives me an idea of something to take a picture of and a deadline to do it in. I would love to earn a ribbon and really like seeing my score, I freely admit this but I also enter the pictures I like simply because I like them. Look at my profile, not every picture exactly fits the typical DPC way but it fits in my eyes. I always look forward to the comments to see others reactions.
1= to get comments. but, not just on DPC. I sometimes submit the same pix in several online camera communities just to see if I am getting the same comments. If I see similarities in comments, then I know which direction to go next with that pix.
2= I know the pix is a DOG. I sometimes want to see if anyone is paying attention.
3= sometimes I think I actually do have a ribbon winner, or at the very least a top 10. But, usually I am voted otherwise.
Count me in, I shoot for joy. I wish I could show my current Broken entry because it was definatley a "I love the tones of this, I love the feel" that is not a voter favorite.

It's likely that I'll have been dead for 100 years or so before people come to appreciate my pulitzer-worthy talents. Until then, I will join the underground.
