When I'm looking at the photos in the galleries or submissions to a challenge I can see thumbnails for many of the entries but there are a large number that do not. Is there a reason why?

I've looked at some of the underlying photos and can't see an obvious reason.

This sometimes happens if you're using Norton Internet Security. If you are, go into the adblocking portion and set it to allow dpchallenge.com,

Thanks mk ... this worked and I can now see everyone's work.

For anyone else interested, Open ad blocking advanced options in the Norton Internet Security status and settings. Add site www.dpchallenge.com and then add/permit html string "images.dpchallenge.com". This worked for me.
