Before I completely steal a thread on nude photos I wanted to start a new thread on this issue. It comes up so frequently and I know I am not alone.
There are photos as parents we don't like our kids seeing and yet we have no control over them. There are also photos that we are just complete turned by and don't really want to see them again. We really need a "Parental Control" were as we vote we can check to have the image hidden. Why everyone thinks it the nudes that have to be hidden is beyond me...most nudes are very tasteful here and I don't have the nudes hidden but I would love the option to hide photos that I just don't deem fit for my child to see if he is around.
Why are you voting when your children are around? Not trying to cause something. I have two children. If there is something on the internet, or on TV I feel is not appropriate for them, I make sure I view it when they are otherwise occupied or asleep. When I was editing the Nude Challenge photos - or taking them here in my house for that matter! - I made sure they were occupied with a movie in another room, or that I was ready at any moment to click over to another window so that they were not needing to see.
That is my parental control. :)

I agree, I guess I meant all 'questionable' photos in the last thread I started. The link to the violent photo in that threat is a prime example if what I'd like to be able to choose not to see (while at work, for me anyway - it's really a nice photo, I'm not knocking it)
However, my point is, a breast is still a breast, no matter how tastefully it's done.
I dont' vote while he is around I vote at night, but I do check scores and leave comments throughout the day so why should someone be able to hide the nudes when I can't hide what I find offensive.
Now if you read the thread on nudes you will find out that hiding nudes doesn't always work. Wouldn't it work better if each individual had the ablity to hide what they find offensive or don't want seen at work.
I am sorry that sight council thinks this isn't serious and is such a joke. One of these days someone is going to get fired cause photos like the 1st and 3rd place winners in the nude challenge are showing on a computer screen at work.
We can already mark comments if we like them, we can block photos that the photographer lists as a nude but what about photos that are placed in other catagories or the photographer doesn't consider nude work. Why not install a box in the voting so each person can set what is visable later?
What is it going to take a member of site council getting fired before this is taken seriously?
What I want to know is when parents are going to start taking responsibility for what their children are seeing instead of blaming it on the internet. If you're going to get fired because of what's on the front page, how about not looking while you're at work? If you don't want your kids to see certain pictures, how about not looking at them while they're standing behind you. It all seems very simple to me.
I don't think OSS is speaking only of keeping kids from seeing them. She, and others, have already talked about that. And it is not about being a prude and wanting all nudes banned. I think her point is -- what if there is a legitimate reason for not wanting offensive pics shown. Is there, will there ever be a workaround?
I think there could be a reasonable solution to this problem...
When someone submits a photo to a challenge, there could be a checkbox that says:
This photo could be considered 'offensive' to some viewers.
The photographer could check this box. Each viewer could have an option in their preferences to hide photos that could be offensive in the same way that 'nude' photos are hidden.
This would not be completely foolproof because some photographers would simply not check off that thier photo could be offensive. However, I believe that some or most of them probably would if asked to do so.
I believe that a photographer KNOWS when their photo is going to be offensive to some, with a few minor exceptions. I think that most of those photographs are intended to be that way.

I think you overestimate the powers of site council members. We help, we suggest, but we don't vote. The site is owned, run, and coded by just two people (who also have "day jobs"). Even if they were to decide to institute some form of what you want (which I suggested to Langdon in another thread), it would apparently be difficult to code and implement, and would take quite some time.
I also don't think there's any clear consensus of how such a mechanism would be structured or what it would cover. I don't think the issue is being ignored, but it is probably not at the top of the list either. And we did all know what this site is when we signed up ....
you seem to be of split personality about this whole issue. on the one hand you take a macro of your own nipple for temperature. and on the other, you dont want tasteful nude thumbnails to appear on the screen of people who are at work, who probably should be working and not playing on dpc anyway (although that's your business and your own problem if you decide to, and dpc in no way takes responsibility for you flauting the rules of your job to look at it when you're not supposed to).

If anyone gets fired from their job for goofing off, it doesn't really matter what you were looking at online.

I enjoy coming here to learn about digital photography and I feel that there are many talented users that I can learn from. I work in a call centre that is sporadically busy and during our downtime I like to learn new things without having to worry about losing my job because the boss walks by when a picture of someone's tits is on my screen. You're right, it is very simple.

If that's all you're worried about, there is already an option to hide the thumbnails of nude photos after voting is complete. This will not, however, hide the images or there thumbnails during voting, so it is recommended that you NOT vote while in a situation where such images popping up could cause you harm.
