Anyone up for shooting Palo Duro Canyon over March 11-13? A short trip, but I think there are quite a few things to see and do there. We could extend it to the 14th if needed.
The park has some lodging available, but I'm not a "roughing it" kind of person so I'll be venturing a few miles north to Amarillo to stay... Motel 6 has a special internet rate of only $31 a night, and there are several of other motel/hotel chains available to suit your taste. I'm just cheap. ;)
Anyway...if you're interested let me know in this thread and let's see what we can get going! :)

no, half the fun of camping is cooking "cheese weiners" a.k.a. summer sausage with processed cheese cooked inside. Oh, and you guys can feel free to stop by the camp for eggs and bacon in the morning and we can have s'mores and tell ghost stories at night. (after we have all taken our sunset photos)

Yeah, be warned, if Danny goes (and/or if I come along) shooting finishes about 3 hours after sunset and about 2 hours before sunrise...
From Dallas it's a 6 hour drive so yeah, it's (as we say around here) a purty far piece... ;)
So, too far for lunch, but probably okay for dinner.
Gordon, if you drive up to Dallas first, we can all ride in the box on wheels! I have new tires and they're more quiet and less out of balance then when we did Big Bend! :-)
Palo Duro Canyon is a neat place. We used to visit several times a year when we lived in Lubbock. We always said that you almost expect to see cowboys or indians silhouetted against the sky at the rugged rim of the canyon :)
I do remember black widow spiders by the dozens... they were up under rock ledges and overhangs in the (relatively) cool dry creek beds. I believe that was a summertime visit, though, so I wouldn't expect them this time of year. Rattlesnakes are common too... ya'll just be careful.

I dunno, got an airport near there? I've never visited Texas except for a couple of airports (IAH & DFW) And I do have a whole bunch of FFmiles...

Like LaurielBlack, my camping out requirements are Holiday Inn or better, But Motel6 will do in a pinch.
a quick google search came up with "amarillo international airport"
I don't know where you are coming from, but perhaps you can land there, and we can pick you up.

Sorry, f stop open, that was sort of a joke about the airport; and I agree, I could be Santa Fe Alice, or (for that matter) Sara Frances Alice, but I really live in San Francisco, so that's where the SFalice comes from.
And the idea of photographing this beautiful area intrigues me no end. So the operative question is:
Is it Cold this time of year?
(Well, the other one is can I get a flight on my FF miles)
And I really appreciate your offer of transportation. As a rental car in a strange land can be scary.
I would love to go to Palo Duro again, but I wont be able to make it. We get home on March 10th from a 10 day trip to Washington state. and Im sure I will be tired.
