First off i am in no way saying what happend to the new correspondant is not tragic and that i feel for his family because i know what they are going through.
My rant is that a news correspondant who gets injured takes the news for the whole day, and is the biggest story next to hamas taking over,
What about those U.S, British, Austrailian and other countries soldiers who are getting injured or killed, they barely even get acknowldged with 10 seconds on the news. what about how their families are feeling.
It just seriously upsets me how HE is so important to those who are actually doing something

pleas dont take this out of porportion, this is a single persons political view, we all have our own because of our soldiers who are out there doing what they do.
I share your opinion on the US news sources. It is corporate dollars dictating what propaganda the US public gets backed by the most corrupt regime in history.

His injuries get more coverage because he is known to a vast majority of news following public in the U.S. Newspeople have their own "cult of celebrity". Excluding Saddam's sons, Uday and Qusay (sp?), I didn't personally know the names of any of those killed or injured before the beginning of hostilities. I knew who Bob Woodruff was.
a) I think most common people are clueless as to who this dude is, I know I am.
b) reporters protect their own, hence, to a reporter there is no greater horror than an abused victimized reporter...thus, in the mind of reporters the globe over the top story is one of their own being harmed. Remember, this is the breed of individuals (political reporters) who believe that their reporting of the news is actually the important thing. Not the news itself...
I agree with your post, Troy. Yes, it's tragic, but they focus too much attention on their own. I feel the same when a cop gets injured or killed. I do feel bad, but why do they show the same story on the news for several days (weeks or months) just because they're a cop? And then they say, "We're not giving up until we get the guy that did this and we're going to make him pay! He's going to get the maximum..." yada yada. Too bad they don't have that same enthusiasm when some random civilian gets murdered.
Anyway....you're right, the BBC has a great news show.

I have mentioned it in one or two places before, but one of the most poignant things I saw in Vietnam was the war remnants museum in HCMC (Saigon), and the tributes to photo-journalists, usually accompanied by the pictures developed from their last roll of film.
It is a difficult job and news teams are of course going to report on their own: it is a unique insight that one station has when its own reporters suffer injury or death, and the BBC has previously dedicated time to reporting fatalities and near-fatalities that its journalists have suffered. I am not sure that it is worth criticising (unless the reporting overwhelms, rather than sits alongside, other news stories).

Perhaps because they are human - same with the people who put the news shows on ?
