IMO the old ImageManager sucked and the new one sucks worse. I wish you could batch upload without using the program but you can't. Sighhhh... oh to have ftp.
Yep, its official now, I don't have the patience (sp?) to use the new imagemanager. The new catagories are difficult to set, the software is glitchy (thumbnail issues, freezing, lagging, very slow) on my computer, and the layout is kind of weak.
Sorry about the rant but its frustrating to see a business like iStock using beta software and wasting my limited time...
I gotta say, I'm not a fan of ANY imagemanger. I hate that I keep getting black thumbnails. I don't understand why they don't allow FTP. They get really pissy when you even suggest it over there. Oh well.
I just started up with IStock, expecting them to be up to date with the likes of Shutterstock, Fotolia, and Dreamstime. Nope! I am just floored that their software and upload process is so awful.
I really don't think I have the patience to use it, either. If I could batch drag-and-drop files from my hard drive into IManager, it would simplify the process a LOT. However, I have over 100 images that I have to bring over into the program one by one through the Add Image menu. What is up with that?
Once you get all the files into ImageManager, can you batch categorize? I gave up after spending too much time pulling files over one by one. It's much too tedious and time consuming than dragging a bunch of files in an FTP client.
Arghhh - and I read they are charging for a "pro" version of the program. Ummm..no.
Just noticed today that they've changed the upload limits again... by decreasing them from 30 a week to 20 a week for users with under 500 sales.
Their reason is to "bring down the queue", but seems to me by lowering the uploads "temporarily" will just cause a surge of uploads when the limit goes back up and they'll be right back in the same boat.
Great site for sales, but frustrating upload/acceptance policies.
FYI - I resently started with istock and the link that they have for the uploader is quite old. It is linked to 0.3.? and now the software is up to v 0.5.1. I had goo gobbs of problems with the uploader and blank/black thumbs or things just not loading....but now that I have the new one everything is going smoothly. Still not as good as an FTP client...but better than it was. Just go to the web site for the loader, not the istock site, to get the most current one.

Ever since istock has hit 1 million I've noticed a change in their acceptance rate also. Before the 1 million countdown, I rarely had a rejection with them. Since that point, I've had 7 out of 8 rejected. I would say I just had a bad day or two shooting, but all 7 rejected photos are currently on ShutterStock (making money I might add).

I just mentioned it for those in this thread that seem to have the older version of the software. The one creating the black/blank thumbs.
I know it sucks. With the newer version at least you can highlight all and copy paste the catagories from one image to another. And I know...dragging and dropping images to the imagemanager window would make too much sense, as opposed to loading one at a time right?
Seems they just want you to buy the pro version. By the way istock and the guy who created the software do not have an association with one another, or at least that is what he replied to me and one of my posts to the istock thread.
I have only been with them a month and they are SO SLOW with approvals. And they are tough too. I have three times as many approvals at other sites. Glad to know it might be them and not me because they have reached 1 mil.
TG73 in the thread you started that got locked you mentioned ALL of your thumbs are not loading...that is an option. Go through you imagemanager settings and make sure you are generating your thumbs as you add the images.
ImageManager generating black (or no) thumbnails is a known bug having to do with program memory issues.
If you find the program doing this and you're running the program with the ImageManager executable, switch your shortcut to ImageManager512 in the same folder, if it still has the thumbnail problem use ImageManager1024.
My biggest problem right now is the number of allowed uploads, now lowered to 20 a week! Kind of funny because I uploaded 30 last week (before they lowered it) and now that its 20 a week my iStock upload page is showing a negative number for remaining uploads. Hahaha...

In the menu, there is an "add image" where you can bring them in one by one, which is going to be tedious. No the new version does not fix that, you still have to add images one by one. It is all probably a ploy to get you to buy the pro version or go exclusive with istock.
Well look at it this way...if you can only upload 20-30 a week to istock...you have plenty of time to get you 100+ photos into your database.
I guess it'll give me something to do at work when I'm bored.
