Going to hit CES for a few hours at least. Last I checked dpreview, pre show, there were about 30 new cameras announced and a whole digital imaging section in the Sands hotel.
If you haven't been to Hoover Dam, and especially if you haven't been inside Hoover Dam, take a tour down there and do it. It's extraordinary.

I agree. Only about an hour from the strip. Take a tour on the paddle boats they will take you up close to the back side of the dam and you will get a great view of black canyon. Look for the rams on the steep cliff faces. A very good photo opp. Then go on top of the dam, great view.

Hoover Dam is cool, flew over it once in a helicopter on my way to the grand canyon. Are there tours that take you out to the dam and back ? I think though I don't really have enough time in a day and half out there, with half a day at least at CES and committed plans for Friday & Saturday night.
Will at least have a (mini) tripod but not a camera that's good at night exposures. Will be interesting to see how the shots come out.

Yes, they have half-day tours that include a trip into the dam, take busses from Vegas.
check the valley of fire. everyone says red rock, which is closer, but the valley of fire is much more photographic. use the monorail to travel to the strip from the hilton, leave the car there and save some fuel. do not attempt to take your mini tripod ontop of the stratisphere. i attempted, and found myself taking a long walk to the bell desk, they wont allow it, no matter how small (and they make you empty your pockets and go thru metal detectors. That is a real shame that you can't get a car! Titus Canyon is just a remarkable place to see! 26 miles of a one way road with photo opps all the way .

Yeah, there are plenty of places around Vegas that I want to do photo trips to at some point. It's just I don't have a lot of time this weekend with other commitments going on, so it isn't worth the time/ rental to get out to the desert at the worst times of day.

I was just in Vegas 2 months ago for my honeymoon. Stayed in the Bellagio. Great view from our window. This is from there trial runs during the day with the fountains. Keep in mind we were on the 22nd floor and that was still going up.
