This is mainly targeted to European DPCers due to time zone issues but anyone is welcome to join in if they like to shoot in the middle of the night :)
This would take place on Sunday, January 22nd at 10:00 AM GMT, that is London time.
HYPOTHESIS: Travel a synchronized path with the other participants and discover whether parallel lines ever meet.
APPARATUS: Two or more participants, a notebook, and a camera.
METHOD: Participants travel around their chosen location using a 10 stage set of common directions, taking notes and photographs to record their experiences at each stage. Where directions don’t match the environs, improvise.
1. The first stage is your starting point
2. Walk in any direction for 50 to 100 paces, and then turn 180 degrees.
3. Continue walking in that direction until you see something blue.
4. Make a left turn and walk 50 to 70 paces.
5. Walk in any direction until you see something that either is or looks like a number 7 or 11.
6. Take the first left, and continue walking until you find somewhere to sit. (This would be a perfect time to have lunch)
7. Choose any direction and walk for 25 to 50 paces.
8. Continue walking until you see an unusual color, shape or texture. Turn 180 degrees.
9. Keep walking in any direction until you see an archway or an unusual architectural structure.
10. Head for home, but continue looking for something that catches your eye.
That part was taken from a book my future brother in law gave me from Christmas, the next part is my own.
We would take notes (optional but encouraged) and pictures at every stage.At the end of the day we will upload the pictures and the notes and share them with the other participants.
There is really no reward for this except just fun. I thought this would be something cool to do, sort of like a virtual get together. Anyone interested?
Maybe I'm missing something, but there are a couple of 180 degree turns...this would send us back the way we had come...is something going over my head?
This sounds a lot like the Lonely Planet Guide To Experimental Travel ? I read it a few months back, plenty of interesting ideas for photographic walks. In fact I might well do something like that in Vegas this weekend.
Fun project. That particular set of directions is very euro-centric, of course. I could walk all day in a straight line here and never see anyhing resembling an arch, for example. Never see much of anything actually except marshes and beaches and sea, if the line happened to be the right one :-) My chances of stumbling on a place to sit-and-eat on any given straight line ore vanishingly small as well :-)

You can either adapt it to suit your environs, or start somewhere that's not in the middle of nowhere ;o)

Come now - if you are in the middle of nowhere, there are _plenty_ of places to sit and eat... under a tree, on a rock, in a field.
Same with arches - trees have arches, rock arches, even humps of grasses form arches.
