I went out a little bit ago to go get something to eat, and when I was at the stop light i was just looking around at the cool clouds in the sky. Then I noticed a very high altitude rainbow between 2 coulds. So I get out the camera and grab what I thought was my circular polarizer filter and when I tried to focus the rainbow was not there.
Rats...I put my ND filter on....I scramble to grab the CP filter and by the time I got them switched out the rainbow was gone :(
oh well...just another lesson learned in making sure you get the right stuff for the shot
That's ok - I went to Montreal and it was really sunny all day. Went into Notre Dame Basilica - took 80 shots. Was on my way out and realized they were all dark because my polarizer was still on.
Hubby and I went to a wild animal park today and we were heading towards the European Brown Bear enclosure. We rounded a corner and there was the fence and standing up right at the fence less than 2 feet away was one of the bears. Fence wasn't chain link, it was bars, and then a railing to keep people away from the bars, but you could have reached out and touched the darn thing (not that I did!) It took my breath away for a second being that close to a bear. Anyways, just as I was bringing up my camera to take a few shots, he turned around and ran into the brush. Oh well, I'll never forget that moment even if I don't have a picture to prove it :)
I imagine it would be possible to *chase* rainbows (the normal kind) by following the westward end of a cloud front as sunset approaches. Has anyone ever done this?
I took this photo with my old fuji camera, ages ago. I was sitting at my PC and I looked outside and everything was yellow! How weird! I tried to get a photo thru my window but no batteries in my camera. The next min I looked up and there was a rainbow out there too! I ran round the house destroying remote controls to get some batteries, and I finally found some just in time and managed to quickly compose this shot. No post-processing except neat-image to reduce the noise. The sky really was that colour. And yes I know its a bad photo :)
