A lovely site addition would be the ability for individuals to 'hide' certain forum threads from view. As the number of people on this site continues to grow, so does the number of uninteresting forum topics and discussions. It's very difficult to sort through what I consider to be worthwhile reading and the rest of the 'stuff' that is appearing here regularly :)
So many people think because we are a "community" we need to hear about everything.. I would like people to stick to photography, or put unrelated threads in the rant forum.

I just think it would simply allow me to pay better attention to the threads that interest me while ignoring those that do not... It would also allow me to participate in those threads more actively since I would not have to go back and hunt for them regularly...
Don't take this the wrong way and I'm sure people are trying to help out DPC Prints but threads announcing print sales kind of put me off. There should be a seperate DPC Prints forum that I can block just like the rant forum.

I think that's an excellen idea as well... there is currently not a forum that really fits that other than 'general discussion'.
Or, what if there was a way to "tag" threads that you wanted to follow. That way, when you logged in, they would be at the top, and you could ignore the others if you wanted.
Of course, I have zero/zip/nada/zilch knowledge or practice coding such things, and this may be as difficult, or more so than the way you have suggested.
I wholeheartedly agree that having the ability to tag threads for "follow"/"ignore" would be a most welcome change. The code shouldn't be very difficult (or "burdensome") either for either/both features (since they're roughly identical).
On a related note, it would be really nice if we had a "ignore forum sigs" option in our preferences; some sigs are getting really obnoxious.
I agree with all three suggestions made in this thread, i.e. ability to ignore:
. certain forum threads
. posts by certain individuals
. certain forum signatures; i actually don't like most of them but some are really obnoxious.
Would also like to see a feature of being able to mark certain posts, or even threads, 'useful' or 'technical'. If then one could do a search of everything you marked technical, you will save lots of time searching for some important info.
Or you could use the search to find what you are looking for. The site is spidered about 2 times a week. I could probly get it done more often if it's necessary - then you could search by words. "I want the topic about IR and composition" "IR COMPOSITION" Oh look, there it is. :)
Yeah, I suppose they could go whole hog and add a forum scoring/categorizing system so people (members only maybe) could assign some (quantified) qualifiers to threads/posts. Later, when search is added (one day yes?), and I look for "dodge burn" I'll get the higher scoring (hopefully) "how to" thread rather than the "edit my horse to death" thread.
The ability to block certain forum threads would be a BIG plus. The idea of blocking sections like we can do with Rant won't work. Half of the ranters have just started ranting in other topic areas. I find I have been avoiding the site more and more due to the hostile, childish nature of the forums lately.
Of the suggestions above I'd be keenest to see a system that allowed me to tag threads of interest.
At the moment I either hope they are still in the top 30 (I'd like to be able to choose to see more on my home page) or I check the last 5 threads I posted on (though sometimes only 3 might show because I posted on a couple more than once). It's such a chore to go searching through all the forums for a thread once it's fallen off these two lists.
If I could see more than 30 on home page and tag threads of interest to me I'd not be so fussed about an "ignore" feature, though it could prove useful for threads I know I just have no interest in.
why not just change the way threads are shown to people. instead of showing the last post of each topic posted, why not just put the forum categories on the front page and let people navigate as they would wish.

I agree with this totally. I have been avoiding the forums. Maybe what Karmat said would work too.

read the ones dealing with photography rather than dealing with somebody gave me a bad score.poor me

For me, I don't mind a debate or an intelligent discussion. What I find annoying is the use of the forums like a chatroom. I particularly don't care about every little thing, insignificant or not, that someone did today. Or post for no other reason than to post. I'm finding that more and more lately, as a result I come here maybe once a week now. But I'm sure that's meaningless.

i welcome vibrant, vital and passionate discussion. people shouldnt be intimidated by the occasional twerp.
