Hello,
I've been commissioned to make some tables for a coffee shop that is opening soon in Colorado Springs. The owners have requested the tables to be strong and solid, but to look old and beat up.
Below is a photo of the first two tables I've built. One has been 'beat up', painted, and antiqued. I'm distressing the second table tonight, but I don't want to proceed without some input.
Does the first table look naturally old to you? Any comments or input would be greatly appreciated.

That's cool SF that you have this woodworking talent as well as photography! I think the first table definiately looks old and distressed. I especially like the angled legs.

I'm happy to be getting paid to do some woodworking, but this project is going against the grain! I'm kind of a perfectionist. I like things to be just right and look nice. It was very hard to build a table, then attack it with a hammer, belt sander, and a rotozip. Oh well... whatever feeds the kids!!
I like the angled legs better as well. It is a smaller table to be used as a plant stand. I wanted it to be more stable with some weight on it, so I angled the legs. I stood on it and jumped up and down with no problems!! LOL
The same coffee shop wants to hang my photos for sale, as does a Starbucks here in town!! I'm more excited about that than I am about the woodworking!
I like the first table, but pls paint it into brownish as in the second table. I like the way the legs goes outwards, which lends a solid feel (it is more solid isn't it?).
EDIT: I noticed from your 3rd photo, the first table is so short? I'd like to be drinking coffee from a taller table, i guess.

The first table is actually a plant stand. I don't think anyone will be drinking their coffee at this table unless they are lying on the floor. If that's the case, then they need more than a little coffee to get them going!
