Those of us who have been around here for a while know how things work and as in a thread last week someone was complaining about the rash of too small photos lately. I make a point to comment on the entry when I see one that is too small and offer to try and help them or find someone to help them when they are obviously just too small, probably by not knowing how to resize.
Most of us know if we have a camera issue click on the name of the camera find out who else has one and send an email to someone who knows how to use the camera. But that isn't the same with software. I use PSP 7.0 although all the versions of PSP are similar and I can help with the basics. I have used and know a little about Photoshop 7.0, vertially nothing about Photoshop Elements, I have had no sucess with GIMP installation even though I have had a few offer me help my pc just doesn't like GIMP
What we really need is to add a link as to what editing software is being used so new members or someone having a problem with something might be able to ask others for help without the embarassment of the forum knowing they can't do something simple.
I have already helped a few members resize in PSP, and today I got a reply to a comment from someone who was new here, as well as new with a camera and is using photoshop. I asked Paul if he could help him some. I know we have tutorials available but sometimes it is the simple things that we all take for granted that hangs a newbie up. Having a link like we have the cameras listed would make it so much friendlier to the newer members who are having minor problems with resizing or unsharpening mask, the little things like that.
I don't have all the psp answers but I do know a few fellow psp users who have helped me out and I am sure there are others if we only knew who to ask when a problem arises.
Problem is when someone needs help with the editing software this thread won't be around. I know when I got my new camera a few months ago I got help from joanns who also has the same camera as me. But our profiles don't say what editing software we use. So unless we actually know what the person uses we can't get help without asking in the forum and believe me some of my camera questions I would have been embarassed to ask everyone.
I don't even think going to that extent is what is needed. I think more like just knowing who uses what program so you can find someone who can answer the question would help.
I AM NEW aND WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE KNOWING WHO TO CALL ON WHEN i HAVE QUESTIONS ON pHOTOSHOP 6. PERHAPS YOU COULD CATAGORIZE THE DIFFERENT EDITING PROGRAMS AND THEN HAVE LINKS TO THE MAILBOXES OF THOSE IN THE KNOW.

I'd think if there's a software question someone has, just post your question in the Q&A. The good thing about posting the question is, others will see the post and the replies and maybe learn something themselves as well. If you ask another user directly through email, the response/information isn't shared with anyone else like it would be through the forums and isn't as useful.

Yeah but the problem with that is there are people who just won't ask in the forums either cause they are afraid of being embarassed by asking a naive question or beacuse they just aren't forum friendly.
Through CC I have left comments about photos being to small and checked the profile and sent them personal emails offering help when I find out they are very new to the site. Every occassion where this has happened it has been a first time entry of someone who didn't know how to use the forum or didn't want to feel dumb asking how to resize.
I can only help someone to resize in programs I am familar with. Today I asked someone else to try to help a member who was using a program I wasn't familar enough with to give step by step directions too.
In the meantime, the answer to the question which started this (this time) is in this thread. I don't mind answering questions, but writing about stuff like resizing images over and over is unproductive. I haven't had time to make that answer into a tutorial though ....
I think having a list of people willing to be emailed about certain programs is fine, so long as we have an easy way to be active or unactive as our circumstances (work, vacations, etc.) dictate.
Of course, reactivating the SEARCH FEATURE in the forums would take care of a lot of this, as people could search for earlier answers to their questions, without having to post the questions anew.
