I've been through just under 1/3 of the entries so far and took a minute from voting. I can't help but wonder how many people will remember the challenge is SPEED, meaning the should be something out of focus in the photos this week. Are we in the end going to have a winner that doesn't really show the motion cause not enough people took into account that speed is movement and movement is going to make something in your photo out of focus? Just my thoughts cause I just left a comment on a photo that absolutely nothing was in focus. I know either your subject or your background is going to be out of focus to truly show speed.

I believe the challenge was "speed" and not "motion blur." While motion blur is one way to represent speed, there are others.

Very true Terry there were some stills that portrayed speed in this challenge too. And in some cases everything being blurred is speed but Motion blurr is a generalization.
I finished voting for all of them, and it did seem that most people took the same picture over and over, but even further, it seems that alot of post picture editing was used.

How did you ever vote on 192 entries in 40 minutes? That's twelve seconds an image - assuming no time for downloading and refreshing. That seems like a speed record in itself!
As for motion blur - I agree that it's not required to indicate speed, but I understanding OneSweetSin's comment. It does seem that some photo's have captured something moving at a great speed but the shutter speed is so fast it has frozen the moment and therefore doesn't convey the speed aspect well.
I'm just happy it's under 200 submissions for a change - I might get completely through voting this week.
This also swings both ways. Things that display speed may have blur from the motion, but just having a blurred picture doesn't in itself exhibit speed. I've seen quite a few shots so far that are just blurry - no sense of speed at all.
the challenge was for the photo to create a feeling of speed-- but even then many (most?) didn't do that. If you don't have a photo, its hard to not try putting something in anyway.
Also, I have only been on a week, so I have only seen a few challenges, but these entries are so far the poorest. Anyone else?

There were a couple of excellent photos that really gave me the feeling of speed, but I have to agree, most weren't up to the usual standard
It is a bit sad really.. I took one of the best pictures of my life, and it is hovering at about 4.3 - 4.5
I was quite satisfied with my entry this time, but at 4.7xxx it appears as a lot of people disagree with me ;) Mine actually makes you feel a little dizzy if you look at it, but it is a little abstract, I suppose. Got a comment saying that it took a while to figure it out ...
Looking quickly through the Speed challenge makes me wonder how many people risked speeding tickets for this challenge!
Nearly went off the road trying to get a shot of my speedometer......but alas I didn't enter it. I came up with something else yesterday, not that it's doing great at the moment. :)
*edit from looking through this post mine's not doing so bad. This first time I checked when I got up this morning it was under 5.45 now it's over 5.5. Seems alot of mine do that, slowly creep up 0.3 to 0.4 by the end of the voting.
